FirstVerse has no accounts, no logins and no database of users. We cannot see what you search for. We do not know who you are. There is nothing to delete, because we keep nothing.
The site does carry advertising from Google, and Google sets cookies of its own to serve it. That is Google collecting, not us — the advertising section below sets out exactly what that means and how to opt out.
What we collect
Nothing that identifies you. FirstVerse asks for no name, no email, no account and no payment. There is no user database and no server that receives your searches.
What happens when you search
Your search never leaves your device. The Bible text is downloaded to your browser once, and every search runs there — on your phone or computer, not on a server. Nobody, including us, can see what you typed.
This is unusual, and it is deliberate. People search this site with things they would not say aloud.
What is stored on your device
A few settings are kept in your browser's local storage so the site remembers them next visit. They never leave your device and are not sent anywhere:
- Your language choice (English or Spanish)
- Your text size setting
- The Bible text and search data, cached so the site loads quickly
Clearing your browser data removes all of it.
Advertising
The important distinction: we collect nothing. Google does.
FirstVerse itself has no analytics, no tracking, no user database and no server that receives your searches. The advertising on this site is served by Google, and Google sets its own cookies to do that. Those two facts are separate, and we would rather state them plainly than blur them.
FirstVerse shows advertisements from Google AdSense to cover its costs. To serve them, Google sets cookies and uses device identifiers to show and measure ads, and in some cases to personalise them based on your previous visits to this and other websites.
We do not pass anything to Google about you, because we have nothing to pass on. We cannot see your searches, so we could not share them if we wanted to. But what Google collects through its own advertising is governed by Google's terms, not ours, and you should read them if it matters to you:
- Read how Google uses data from sites that use its services
- Turn off personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings
- Opt out more broadly at aboutads.info
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be asked to consent before any advertising cookie is set, and you can refuse. Refusing does not restrict any part of this site — everything works the same either way, because none of it depended on advertising to function.
Other services your browser contacts
Loading the site means your browser requests files from a few places. Each of them can see your IP address, as any web server can:
- Cloudflare — hosts the site. May keep basic security and traffic logs.
- Google Fonts — supplies the typefaces.
- Free Use Bible API — supplies scripture and commentary you request.
- jsDelivr and Hugging Face — only if you use meaning-based search, to fetch the language model that runs in your browser. The model is downloaded to you; your search is not uploaded to them.
Children
FirstVerse is suitable for all ages and collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children because we do not knowingly collect data from anybody.
Your rights
Laws such as the GDPR in Europe and the CCPA in California give you rights to access, correct and delete the personal data a site holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing to access or delete. We do not sell or share personal information, because we have none to sell.
For advertising data held by Google, use the opt-out links above or contact Google directly.

Questions about privacy: contact@firstverse.org
No sabemos quién eres.
